Rooted in Healing, Empowered by Motherhood

Mocha Mamas Matrescence is more than a nonprofit or brand, it’s a movement. Here we honor the powerful transformation that occurs when women become mothers. Our mission is to cultivate healing, creativity, and legacy-building for mamas of color navigating the tender terrain of motherhood, identity, and purpose.

CEO

Amber Houze, MPH

Hi, I’m Amber Houze, the heart behind Mocha Mamas Matrescence. This space was born from my own journey through motherhood, a journey filled with joy, transition, identity shifts, and some deeply challenging chapters, including postpartum depression and a traumatic birth experience that changed me forever. In those vulnerable moments, I realized how desperately mothers of color need safe spaces to be held, heard, supported, and reminded that they aren’t alone.

As a mom and a public health professional, I’ve seen how the system fails us far too often. With a Master’s in Public Health from Liberty University and ongoing doctoral studies in Public Health at Claremont Graduate University, my work has always been rooted in equity, care, and community. My experiences across public health agencies only strengthened my belief that real change begins with healing, storytelling, and connection.

Mocha Mamas Matrescence is my love letter to mothers of color everywhere. It’s a nurturing space where you can grow through your becoming, breathe deeply again, rediscover yourself, and feel supported in every season of motherhood. Here, your story is honored. Your voice matters. Your journey is sacred.

Thank you for being here. Whether you come for community, healing, resources, or simply a moment to exhale, you are welcome, you are worthy, and you are seen.

Learn More About My Story

My journey into motherhood wasn’t gentle. It was shaped by anxiety, postpartum depression, and a traumatic birth that left both physical and emotional scars. In the quiet moments when the world expected me to simply “bounce back,” I was fighting to feel whole again.

What saved me was understanding that matrescence, the becoming of a mother, is not meant to be walked in silence. Yet too many mothers of color are left without the support, care, and compassion they deserve.

Mocha Mamas Matrescence grew from that realization. It grew from the desire to turn my pain into purpose, to build a community where mothers can be held, heard, and honored. Today, this brand reflects a journey of healing, resilience, and rising, one that I hope will inspire others to know they are not alone and they are more powerful than they know.

“Matrescence is a rebirth. May you rise gently, boldly, and in your own time.”
